Seven days after the headless bodies of two herdsmen were found in the jungle, residents of Maame Krobo Nkwanta in the Afram Plains South District of the Eastern Region are living in fear.
The victims, some body parts missing, and beheaded, were discovered with gunshot wounds on their backs.
Residents in Kwahu Afram Plains South District are experiencing terror as a result of the incident, according to Evans Kyei Ntiri, the district chief executive officer.
“Hardly a week today, between the hours of 5am and 7, we heard the incident where two herdsmen in Kwapong Nkwanta, a community near Maame Krobo were killed and beheaded by unknown persons,” he claimed in a May 30 JoyNews interview.
According to him, the district commander, locals, and the relatives of the deceased took the bodies to the Presbyterian Hospital mortuary after the assembly member in the region reported the occurrence to the police.
We have interacted with the local communities and bereaved families in particular on a number of occasions. We in the district do not favor such an act, and this incidence has not been good news.
“Very sad, very disturbing, and honestly, I don’t know why this should happen,” the speaker said.
According to Mr. Ntiri, a meeting was arranged with the Fulani community to give them confidence that the issue would be looked into in great detail.
“Not only the Fulani community, but also the surrounding communities and the entire populace, have we asked for their assistance in the investigation.”
Mr. Ntiri said that in order to stop any reprisals, more military and police officers have been sent in.
He announced that the District Security Council (DISEC) will meet to talk about how to catch the offenders.
“We are promising the community that they will always have complete security, both the surviving members and the bereaved. Eighty men have been sent as of right now. Our regular police officers are present and are hard at work conducting their routine patrols.
“We continue to ease the anxieties of our grieving families, the Fulani community, if you visit the community. We implore them to assist us in gathering information, to maintain their composure, and to trust that we will thoroughly investigate the situation to find the murderers,” he uttered.
