A voter registration center in the Central Region’s Cape Coast North district is said to have been the target of gunfire.
The gunshots were reportedly fired by some individuals who were supposedly defending Horace Ekow Ewusi, the parliamentary candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), according to Kofi Adjei of Adom News, who is keeping an eye on the proceedings.
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) was apparently trying to register a group of people at the center when multiple bullets were fired on Thursday morning.
According to reports, the registrants were bussed from Moree, which is in the Abura Asebu Kwamankese constituency.
At the center, the NPP members swore they would not permit them to sign up for the current limited registration drive.
Members of the NDC and NPP misunderstood each other as a result, and gunfire followed.
The event apparently degenerated because Godfred Onso Nyameye, the NDC constituency youth organizer, had his phone taken during the altercation.
A mob pursued Mr. Ewusi out of the registration center, dragged him into his car, and drove off.
There hasn’t been an arrest made yet.
