A ferry malfunction on Tuesday left more than 150 cars and passengers stranded on the River Oti in Dordoe-Korpe in the Oti Region.
Over 150 different kinds of vehicles, including saloon cars, buses, articulated trucks, fuel and gas tankers carrying a variety of products and food, were waiting to be reserved and driven to the River Oti’s riverbanks when the Ghana News Agency (GNA) visited the landing location at Dambai.
After spending more than 48 hours at the riverbank, Aliu Mumuni, a driver from Accra to Wulensi in the Nanumba North District, requested that the Ghana Highway Authority construct a bridge across the River Oti to facilitate their travel.
A driver from Tema named Ibrahim Awudu, who was traveling to Bimbilla in the Northern Region, urged the government and Volta Lake Transport Company management to work together efficiently to address those issues.
Operation Manager of Volta Lake Transport Limited (VLT), Commander Victor Oppong Fianko, said that an electronic malfunction occurred on the ferry, and that mechanics from Akosombo had been sent to repair the damaged vessel.
He was optimistic that the ferry will begin operating fully on Thursday, May 9, and emphasized that all stranded vehicles would cross late in the day.
