Voters will be reassured by the Electoral Commission (EC) that any errors committed during the ongoing limited voter registration process would be fixed during the Voters Exhibition Exercise.
This comes after a video that was posted online and has since gone viral showing a new voter ID card bearing the bearer’s registration at Kasoa in the Central Region, even though the district is identified as Ayawaso North in the Greater Accra Region.
The European Commission stated in a press release dated May 8 that these mistakes were common and that the commission frequently posts registries to correct them. The release was signed by Acting Director of Public Affairs, Michael Boadu.
Consequently, the commission will allow individuals to rectify such errors in the register from Monday, July 15 until July 24.
The Electoral Commission has been alerted about a new voter ID card that has been making the rounds on social media. The card bearer is said to have registered at Kasoa in the Central Region. The bearer’s residential address, Kasoa in the Central Region, and district, Ayawaso North in the Greater Accra Region, are listed on the card.
“After conducting further investigation, we have determined that the Data Entry Clerk made a mistake.” This is not an uncommon occurrence. This is the reason the law allows voters to update their information during the Voters Exhibition Exercise if there are any inaccuracies.
A section of the statement stated, “Voters will have the opportunity to review and correct any errors with their registration details from Monday, July 15 to Wednesday, July 24, 2024.”
In the meantime, the EC reaffirmed its dedication to carrying out its duty.
