Four people—including a six-month-old baby—were hurt by Monday morning’s downpour when the Kasoa Zongo cemetery wall fell.
In the Awutu Senya East Municipality of the Central Region, three of the injured were vendors in the Kasoa Old market.
The mother of the six-month-old infant claims that she was preparing her stand behind the cemetery wall to go and sell when the rain started to fall.
Before they could extract the bodies from the rubble, she claimed they cried out for some men to step in.
The six months old baby is currently receiving treatment at the Kasoa Polyclinic with the two others, whilst another was to be transferred to the Korle-Bu or 37 Military Hospital as at the time this report was being filed.
“My daughter, who works here as a salesperson, claimed she jumped when she saw the wall fall off. There were no bystanders because the wind was blowing and the rain had started. Hajia was setting up her stuff here, too, so we were talking. I cried aloud, “Where is Hajia?” as she abruptly vanished from view.
“After that, we noticed her beneath the collapsed wall. I cried out for assistance, and a few men arrived to remove the blocks from her. She was only able to gesture with her hand when I noticed blood streaming from her nose. Desmond, my kid, also tried to stand up on his own but was unable until we lifted the blocks because some debris had fallen on his leg.
Another woman selling mangoes had her shoulder likewise struck by a block. They were brought to the medical facility. Desmond is receiving care at the polyclinic due to a broken leg. According to what I’m hearing, they want to move Hajia to either 37 Military Hospital or Korle-Bu,” the victim’s son eyewitnessed in Twi.
The rain on Monday, May 6, 2024, wrecked havoc on many things, including an SUV and a motorcycle at Cantonments, an Accra neighborhood.
