In Abeka, Greater Accra Region, a man, thought to be in his 50s, allegedly set himself on fire following an unsuccessful attempt to hurt his wife.
The incident happened at roughly three in the morning on Monday, May 6, 2024.
Adom News reported that on Monday morning at around three in the morning, Collins Jones, the wife of a mother of three, attacked her while she slept.
The man’s wife, Martina Jones, claimed her husband injured her forehead by striking her with a pestle he had placed under their bed.
Martina described her terrifying experience to Adom News, saying that as she was gasping for air, her husband grabbed her neck and began choking her to death.
Martina bravely and resolutely broke free from her husband’s lethal hold and left the room.
When she made it outside, her neighbors helped her even more, and she was taken right away to the hospital.
Regretfully, Collins—who is thought to be in his late 50s—reportedly shut himself inside and set himself on fire after realizing how serious the crime he had committed.
Despite the fact that his neighbors came running to save him, he was taken to the hospital where, a short while later, he passed away from his wounds.
Collins’ wife did not do anything wrong, so she is unsure of what may have sparked the attack, she told Citi News in an interview.
“I haven’t done him any wrong to deserve this kind of abuse. Our kids found the pestle behind our bed and showed it to me. When I asked where his father had put the pestle, he said that it was there.
“When I inquired about its intended usage, he replied that it would most likely be sent to work by his father. I fought with him and was able to remove the pestle from him when he struck me with it at night because I thought maybe he was trying to murder me. Following some struggle, I was able to get away from the scenario.
