Martin Luther Kpebu, a private attorney, has asked the Attorney General and the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) to allow him and a few other individuals to examine Cecilia Dapaah’s file in order to uncover what he believes to be the corruption the government is attempting to hide.
He claims that the EOCO intends to investigate Madam Dapaah’s tale in the same way that it did not properly investigate certain financial crimes involving government officials.
Former Minister of Sanitation and Water Resources Cecilia Abena Dapaah stated that her housemaids had embezzled large quantities of money that were kept in her Abelenkpe residence.
It seems that a woman’s possession of large sums of money in various currencies has caused public concern and an investigation by the Office of the Special Prosecutor. After conducting a search of the woman’s home, more money was discovered, leading to suspicions of money laundering. The case was transferred to EOCO, which is responsible for investigating money laundering cases in the country. However, the Attorney-General has advised against EOCO’s investigation, which has led to accusations of a conspiracy to let the woman go. Martin Kpebu, a legal expert, has criticized the EOCO boss for dereliction of duty and called for more transparency in the investigation. Kpebu has also offered to analyze the files to help uncover the truth behind the case.
