In relation to the shooting death of a soldier at Kasoa due to a land dispute, the police have detained one suspect.
Benlord Ababio, the suspect, is being held by the police and helping with the investigations.
In a statement confirming the suspect’s arrest, the police stated that their preliminary investigation had determined the suspect’s supposed time of shooting, which was Tuesday, April 30, at around 4:20 p.m.
The victim, according to the police, was shot in the head and sent to the Mother and Child hospital in Kasoa where they treated him but later declared him dead.
The incident happened on Tuesday, April 30, following the officer and two of his colleagues’ visit to a piece of property they had bought.
When they arrived, they saw that construction was still being done and that additional people had taken up residence on the property. There is a dispute over the land, so they told the workers to stop working and follow them to the police station to settle the issue.
The person who is said to have mediated the land transaction, Winnebo Ndego, verified that one of the cops had actually purchased the land.
Ndego, however, said that since purchasing the site, the cops have encountered resistance from a group of people headed by Fiifi, who is purported to be a land guard, and that this opposition has stopped the officers from developing the area any further.
The policemen had previously reported the matter to the police, but nothing was done about it.
But the workers didn’t agree, and this intensified the arguments, which resulted in Benlord Ababio, also known as Nana Ben, a sub-chief, killing one of the troops.
One of the troops was killed when Nana Ben is said to have opened fire on the private Toyota RAV4 automobile that the officers were driving, which had the license plate GR 3591-24.
