Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the presidential candidate of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), has challenged John Dramani Mahama to a debate over who has the best ideas to solve the state’s challenges.
According to a statement signed by Dennis Miracles Aboagye, the director of communications for the Bawumia for President 2024 campaign, John Dramani Mahama, the nominee of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), blew his chance to become president and doesn’t deserve another one.
He claims that the debate will provide Ghanaians the chance to select between the two front-runners and determine which one has the legitimacy to be the nation’s president.
According to him, the meeting would also highlight the accomplishments of both candidates from their time as vice presidents, as well as John Mahama’s opportunity to become president and his accomplishments from it.
“The two personalities are the main concern for 2024. Which of the two front-runners will Ghanaians prefer to take over as country’s leader in 2024? Which candidate—the one who was given the chance but blew it due to his incapacity or the one who proved his mettle even as vice president and is now vying for the chance to prove his mettle as president—will get the opportunity? We challenge the major opposition party to participate in a discussion about the two individuals.
The Dr. Bawumia Campaign encourages Ghanaians to consider the weight and legitimacy of the platforms put out by the two front-runners for president, Bawumia and Mahama. With the current positive turnaround, the Bawumia campaign plans to consolidate the gains and take on the outstanding issues head-on if given the mandate in December. “The campaign will respectfully but decisively address all major issues facing our nation in the coming months,” an excerpt from the statement stated.
According to Mr. Miracles Aboagye, the upcoming debate will highlight the track record of both candidates in governance and their ability to address national issues. The main issue for the 2024 election is believed to be which of the two main candidates, who have very different backgrounds, will be the better leader. Dr. Bawumia’s campaign is inviting voters to focus on the credibility and weight of the policies of both candidates, and is planning to address all major issues facing the nation in the coming months. Dr. Bawumia will begin his campaign in the Eastern Region and will travel to all 16 regions in the country over the next month to engage with stakeholders from various fields, including traditional leaders, clergy, youth groups, traders, drivers, farmers, students, and business owners. The campaign will also focus on visiting marketplaces to engage with both traders and consumers.
