A nursing mother has revealed that on Tuesday, March 26, 2024, she lost her three-day-old child at Tema General Hospital, purportedly as a result of a power outage at the facility.
The troubled 24-year-old mother, Rashida Abubakar Tetteh, has revealed that she was hospitalized to the hospital’s Post C-S ward after a doctor informed her that her kid wouldn’t live because of broken medical equipment during the power outage.
“I went to see my son, but he wasn’t there.” As I waited outside, a doctor arrived to apologize and explain that my child would not live because the incubator was not functioning because of the blackout.
“I am in pain; they killed my child because of dumsor; it’s painful.” We are at a loss for words with the hospital. One hospital, Tema General, reported that their generator was empty. Tema General Hospital, however, has refuted allegations claiming that the facility’s fatalities were brought on by Tuesday’s outages.
The hospital called these charges “baseless” and advised the public to ignore them in a news release released on March 27.
An excerpt from the statement stated, “It is worth noting that no lives were lost as a result of this power outage.”
The hospital’s steadfast dedication to putting its patients’ health and safety first was emphasized in the statement.
The statement ended, “The Tema General Hospital assures the general public that the Facility will continue to put the health and safety of its patients at the core of its business.”
