The Obuasi police have apprehended Lance Corporal Eric Opoku, a man claiming to be a military officer assigned to Tamale but serving on special assignment in Bawku, for attempting to rob someone.
According to reports, the aforementioned Lance Corporal Opoku and his cronies have been moving between the mining sites in the Obuasi Municipality, extorting money and gold dust from the miners.
However, on Monday, March 25, when the foursome went to Kwabenakwa Nyamesomyede, a community in the Ashanti region’s Obuasi East district, luck eluded them.
The 27-year-old, who subsequently revealed his identity as Lance Corporal Eric Opoku, was arrested by the miners after they retaliated against them with gunfire intended to frighten them.
