OTAMENDI: I HAD FIVE WONDERFUL YEARS
Speaking ahead of his departure to Benfica, Nicholas Otamendi bid farewell to Man City, telling the club’s official website: “They were five wonderful years, not just in a footballing sense, but also at a club where they treat you in the best way possible, from the chefs to the kitmen, through to the backroom staff,” he
“I’ve had the opportunity to win two Premier Leagues, to win the Carabao Cup, the FA Cup and the Community Shield. If you win titles it is because you are doing things well, and so I’m happy to have enjoyed these moments, and more than grateful.
“I was lucky enough since the first year I arrived to win a trophy, and later with the arrival of Pep to win even more. I am just happy to have played my part, with the support of my teammates and the staff.
“I [also] wanted to show my gratitude [to the fans]. Since my arrival they have always treated me well, from the people who bump into me in a service station or in a supermarket, they have always been so kind, saying nice things to me.
“I hope they are happy; I gave everything I could to the club, and I hope the success keeps coming. I send all my love to the fans.”
13:22
After signing for Manchester City, new defender Ruben Dias told the club’s official website: “To have the opportunity to join a club like Manchester City is a fantastic opportunity for me and one I couldn’t turn down.
“Their success speaks for itself. They have been the dominant team in England over the last few years, playing an attacking brand of football which I feel suits my own game.
“It is really exciting to be part of such a talented squad and to play for a world class manager like Pep Guardiola, who has a proven track record of developing young players like myself.
“I believe I can improve here, at a club whose ambitions match my own and I will give everything to be successful and win titles.”
Director of Football, Txiki Begiristain, added: “Ruben is a player we have admired for some time and we have been impressed with how he has progressed at Benfica.
“He has developed into a real leader and as a defender, he has all the attributes we are looking for. He is strong in the air, good in one v one situations and technically, he is very good, so we are confident he can thrive in our system.
“He is young, but has experience playing for a top European club in Benfica and we’re really pleased we’ve been able to sign him.”

LEEDS YOUNGSTER JOINS BRADFORD ON LOAN
Leeds defender Bryce Hosannah has joined Sky Bet League Two side Bradford City on a season-long loan deal.
The 21-year-old has been a regular for the Under-23s since arriving in 2017 from Crystal Palace and has featured in the opening three Premier League 2 matches of this season.12:01
‘FOFANA CAN DEVELOP INTO SOMETHING SPECIAL’
Sky Sports’ Kaveh Solhekol told The Transfer Show:
“Saint-Etienne have an incredible record when it comes to selling young centre-backs. They sold Kurt Zouma, they sold William Saliba and now they’re selling Wesley Fofana.
“He’s a very good player and is supposed to be one of the best young centre-backs in Europe but he’s only played 14 league games for Saint-Etienne. He really has developed under Claude Puel, the former Leicester manager.
“What is interesting is that lots of other clubs were interested in him, including AC Milan and West Ham. The latter made an offer last week that in total came to £33m but we were told that the offer was always unlikely to succeed because of the payment terms West Ham were proposing. They were only going to offer €4m up front and they were going to pay the rest in instalments.
“The offer Leicester have put together is much more attractive. There was a bit of reluctance on Puel’s part to lose Fofana, especially to a club he used to manage, but Leicester have increased their offer and got it to a place where Saint-Etienne are comfortable with.
“Fofana is a young centre-back who really can develop into something special. Sources at Saint-Etienne say he is going to become one of the stars of French football and now he’s going to do that at Leicester.”11:44
CARRA: JOTA IS A PRESSING MONSTER
Jamie Carragher says Diogo Jota has made a great start at Liverpool after scoring against Arsenal but will ultimately be judged on his work off the ball.
COULD MAN UTD TARGET CAVANI?
Sky Sports’ Kaveh Solhekol told The Transfer Show:
“Sky Sport Italia reporter Gianluca Di Marzio has been reporting today that Manchester United are interested in taking Edinson Cavani to Old Trafford.
“He’s a free agent after leaving PSG, and there’s also interest in Luka Jovic being taken on loan from Real Madrid.”11:29
‘MAN UTD TO FALL SHORT IN SANCHO PURSUIT’
Sky Sports’ Alan McInally told The Transfer Show:
“There’s no reason why Borussia Dortmund would roll out Marco Rues, the captain of the football club, to say Jadon is staying for another year unless he was.
“For me, nothing’s happened – it’s a simple as that. I don’t believe we can make fun of the respiratory condition that Dortmund says the player has had. They could’ve said he had a toe or a hamstring injury. That might had said to me the deal could still happen.
“But he won’t be going. As one of the biggest clubs in the world, why haven’t United just gone out and offered €120m for him? For me, Jadon Sancho is not the type of player United need to be targeting but I still feel they’re going to fall short.
“If they really want Sancho, just pay the €120m.”11:17
WILL SANCHO AGITATE FOR A MOVE?
Sky Sports’ Dharmesh Sheth told The Transfer Show:
“I’ve been talking about this deal for the past six weeks and there have been big developments this evening. We were expecting Manchester United to go in for an offer and now they have.
“Borussia Dortmund have rejected that initial bid, and they have always outlined two considerations attached to it: firstly, they wanted a guaranteed £108m for Jadon Sancho, and secondly they wanted this deal done by August 10.
“Evidently, United are short of that valuation and they are 50 days past the deadline set by Dortmund. The question now is what do United do next? If they go back in with an improved offer, will Sancho agitate for a move?
“Dortmund are under no pressure to sell with the player having three years left on his contract. With six days left in this window, they have such limited time to replace him.”11:10
SANCHO’S POTENTIAL DEADLINE DAY SCENARIO
Jadon Sancho – or any other England player involved in late transfer business – may be required to leave and therefore unable return to the secure eco-bubble at St George’s Park, if they are need to undergo a medical on Deadline Day.
UEFA’s Coronavirus protocols dictate that any player who goes outside a secure international camp during the current pandemic, will not be allowed to re-join.
Manchester United are expected to return with a renewed offer for the Borussia Dortmund forward later this week, but it’s a distinct possibility that negotiations will continue close to Monday’s deadline.
That’s also the day when England’s players are required to join up with the national squad for the triple header against Wales, Belgium and Denmark.10:47
DELE NOT IN TOTTENHAM SQUAD
Dele Alli has been omitted from the Tottenham squad for the Carabao Cup clash with Chelsea this evening.
When asked about Alli’s absence, Jose Mourinho said: “There’s no Dele Alli, there’s no Son and there’s no Lo Celso. I’m not going to speak about the players who are not here. Are you going to ask Frank [Lampard] about why there’s no Thiago Silva?
“Fans are especially fascinated with the players who are playing.”
Spurs starting XI: Lloris, Alderweireld, Dier, Tanganga, Aurier, Gedson, Ndombele, Sissoko, Reguilon, Bergwijn, Lamela.
Subs: Hart, Doherty, Sanchez, Davies, Hojbjerg, Lucas, Kane.10:38
SAINT-ETIENNE CONFIRM FOFANA AGREEMENT
Saint-Etienne say they have reached an agreement with Leicester to sell defender Wesley Fofana.
Sky Sports reported earlier that the fee for the player could rise to £30m.
“The amount of this transfer is the largest ever obtained by the club,” the French club said in a statement.
“The decision to sell the player was taken collegially by the Management Board and the shareholders. Saint-Etienne accepted Leicester’s exceptional offer, especially given the uncertain economic context caused by the health crisis.”
10:32
TROOST-EKONG JOINS WATFORD
Defender William Troost-Ekong has completed a permanent transfer to Watford.
The 27-year-old centre-half, who has 42 caps and represented Nigeria at the 2018 World Cup, has signed a five-year contract with the Hornets and becomes the latest new addition to Vladimir Ivic’s squad.
Troost-Ekong has spent the past two years in Italy with Udinese, playing 66 times for the Serie A side since his arrival from Turkish Süper Lig outfit Bursaspor in 2018.
10:31
SAINTS’ O’CONNOR JOINS GILLS
Gillingham have signed Southampton defender Tommy O’Connor on loan for a second time.
The versatile 21-year-old made 32 appearances for the Gills last season and told the club’s website: “I’m delighted to be back, I had a good season in 2019-20 and it was just unfortunate it was cut short (by the coronavirus pandemic) as we were doing well.
“I enjoyed my spell; the manager wanted me back, I know a few of the lads and I know the area so everything about it just came together.”10:22
BAYERN INTERESTED IN LAMPTEY
Bayern Munich have expressed an interest in Brighton‘s Tariq Lamptey.
The full-back only joined Brighton from Chelsea in January for £4m.
Hansi Flick would like to have a back-up right-back for Benjamin Pavard – and Lamptey has been seen as fitting the profile.
10:17
BREAKING NEWS
Manchester United have made a bid worth up to €100m (£91.3m) for Borussia Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho.
Dortmund have rejected the bid. United’s offer was for an initial €80m rising to up to €100m.
Sancho has not flown with the rest of the Dortmund squad for the German Super Cup in Munich against Bayern due to a “respiratory infection”. The player has tested negative for Covid-19.

NEIL SIGNS NEW SUNDERLAND DEAL
Sunderland have announced Dan Neil has signed a new contract at the Stadium of Light.
The midfielder has put pen to paper on a three-year deal, committing his future to the club and extending his stay on Wearside until the end of the 2022/23 season.

BARNSLEY OR NEW YORK?
Gerhard Struber has a decision to make between Barnsley and the Big Apple, with New York Red Bulls interested in the Austrian manager, according to the Yorkshire Post.
Struber has reportedly agreed terms with the MLS franchise, having endured a tough start to the Championship campaign that has seen them pick up just a point from their first three games.
But Sky Sports EFL pundit Keith Andrews believes it would be a disaster for Barnsley to lose the man that masterminded their remarkable escape from relegation at the back end of last season.
“The job he did last season was brilliant,” Andrews told the Sky Sports EFL Podcast. “Even with two games to go they looked down, but they navigated themselves out of trouble.
“You have got to look at their team closely to really admire what he does with the squad. They are one of the best teams in the Championship in how they are organised and how they press. They lack a bit of quality but that goes back to the budget.
“It would be a blow for Barnsley to lose him.”

DYCHE RULES OUT PANIC BUYING
Burnley boss Sean Dyche will refuse to panic buy if the Clarets miss out on their prime targets. Manager Dyche also believes his squad will transform once a host of injured players return.
The club are talking to Liverpool about winger Harry Wilson having signed Dale Stephens from Brighton last week.
“It is not just down to him (the chairman) but I can’t sign the cheques,” said Dyche, ahead of Wednesday’s visit of Manchester City in the Carabao Cup.
“Would we want a couple more? Ideally, yes, but when everyone who is injured, when they’re all fit it looks radically different.
“We don’t want to sign for the sake of signing but we do want talent and players who fit us and can take us forward.
“We’re on the lookout but eventually it comes down to someone making those big decisions financially.
“In house as well, we have to make sure the players are looked after. We have some very good ones, particularly for a club like Burnley, we have some very talented players.”09:47
TRANSFER NEWS WRAP: CLUB-BY-CLUB UPDATE
The Transfer Show’s Dharmesh Sheth and Kaveh Solhekol take you through the transfer news from every Premier League club.
CAN MAN UTD OFFLOAD FRINGE PLAYERS?
Sky Sports’ Kaveh Solhekol told The Transfer Show:
“There are quite a lot of potential out-goings at Manchester United. Andreas Pereira is close to joining Lazio on a loan deal with the option to buy next summer in a deal worth about £20m – he signed a new contract just last summer but his chances have been limited.
“Diogo Dalot could be on his way to AC Milan while there’s still a stalemate as far as Chris Smalling‘s move to Roma is concerned. United are expecting Roma to put in a fresh offer. They value the player at around £20m.
“Sergio Romero, the third-choice goalkeeper, still hasn’t been the subject of an offer but United are expecting a club to come in for him in the next few days.
“As far as Marcos Rojo, Phil Jones and Jesse Lingard are concerned, it’s looking more and more likely that they’re going to stay as there’s not been any offers for them.”09:33
AFOLABI JOINS DUNDEE
Jonathan Afolabi has signed for Dundee on loan from Celtic. Afolabi has extended his Celtic contract before he went on loan. The new contract takes him up until the end of the 2022/23 season.
09:29
SARR THE PLAN B TO SANCHO?
Sky Sports’ Dharmesh Sheth told The Transfer Show:
“It’s more hope than expectation with regards to Jadon Sancho and earlier in the window, we discussed alternative targets and there’s a lot of work going on behind the scenes – perhaps more than on Sancho regarding who they could bring in.
“The names being mentioned were Inter Milan’s Ivan Perisic, Douglas Costa of Juventus, Bayern’s Kingsley Coman – but one name that has emerged today is Watford’s Ismaila Sarr.
“Watford will not consider a loan – they only want to sell and he is valued at £50m.”09:27
LEICESTER MAKE FOFANA BID
Leicester City have made an offer to Saint-Etienne for Wesley Fofana – the fee could rise to a possible £30m.
The French club have yet to respond formally, but are considering it.09:16
JOHNSON JOINS WIGAN
Wigan Athletic have confirmed the loan signing of defender Darnell Johnson from Leicester City on a deal until January 4.
Johnson, 22, was part of the England U19 squad which won the UEFA U19 European Championships in 2017, along with former Latics Reece James and Dujon Sterling.09:14
DUNDEE UTD INTERESTED IN McNULTY
Dundee United are interested in signing Reading striker Marc McNulty on loan. The Scotland international joined the Royals in 2018 from Coventry City, for a fee of £1m.
The 28-year-old has spent the last two years on loan at Hibernian and Sunderland. Reading have not received any loan bid for the player at this stage.09:10
SANCHO OUT WITH RESPIRATORY INFECTION

‘MAN UTD EXPECTED TO MAKE SANCHO BID’
Sky Sports’ Dharmesh Sheth told The Transfer Show:
“We know where Borussia Dortmund stand on this, which is they valued Jadon Sancho at £108m and they set that August 10 deadline – but Manchester United have done things in their own time and they don’t feel £108m is realistic.
“They said they would not be held to a deadline, and United are expected to make an official bid this week. It is likely that the Sancho offer will fall on deaf ears as it’s too late. They will claim they’re not in the market for a replacement with six days to go, so Sancho will stay at Dortmund.”09:06
BREAKING NEWS
Jadon Sancho has not flown with the rest of the Borussia Dortmund squad for Wednesday’s domestic Super Cup against Bayern Munich.08:54
‘LYON PRESSURING ARSENAL OVER AOUAR’
French football expert Jonathan Johnson says Lyon are ‘putting pressure’ on Arsenal to improve their bid to sign midfielder Houssem Aouar from the Ligue 1 club.
ZIDANE: MADRID DON’T NEED ANY PLAYERS
Real Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane has no interest in bringing in any more players before the transfer window closes next week, he said on Tuesday.
Madrid still looked like a work in progress in Saturday’s scrappy 3-2 win over Real Betis after drawing their first game of the season 0-0 at Real Sociedad, but the Frenchman does not believe adding to his squad is the answer.
“We already have a lot of players, why would we want to add any more?,” Zidane told a news conference ahead of Wednesday’s home game against Real Valladolid.
“It is already very difficult to pick a team, because all the players are very good, so why add more. The market is open until October 5 but I’m very happy with what I have. This squad is mine and for me they are the best.”
08:18
DEMBELE IN, PEREIRA OUT?
Manchester United are looking at Barcelona’s Ousmane Dembele. A source close to the player has told Sky in Germany he wants to stay at Barca.
Meanwhile, Lazio are close to signing United midfielder Andreas Pereira. The deal is for a loan with an option to make it permanent.
Lazio will pay all of Pereira’s wages during his loan spell.
