Starbucks is now making it known that baristas can support the Black Lives Matter movement with their attire.
The chain coffee company confirmed on Friday (June 12) that workers would be allowed to wear clothing and accessories in support of BLM, following backlash and calls for boycotts for their initial internal messaging.
In a memo obtained by BuzzFeed News Wednesday (June 10), Starbucks had initially prohibited baristas and employees from wearing T-shirts, pins, or any other accessory that mentioned Black Lives Matter, saying that such items could be misunderstood and incite violence.
The chain will now also make 250,000 shirts with a design that includes “Black Lives Matter” and “No Justice, No Peace” available to workers in its company-owned cafes in the United States and Canada, according to CNBC.
