Ghana’s Sports Minister, Isaac Kwame Asiamah has announced that Ghana will still host the All African Games in 2023 despite the threat of the Coronavirus pandemic.
In a meet-the-press session that took place on June 3, 2020, Hon. Asiamah noted that there has not been any indication of a possible postponement of the games despite the threat of the Coronavirus.
“Notwithstanding the negative effect of COVID-19 on global sporting programmes, I am happy to announce that Ghana to host and organise the 2023 All African games is on course. So far there has not been any indication of the postponement of the games.”
He also revealed that the 2023 All African games project committee is ready to host the 13th edition of the African games.
“Nonetheless, the 2023 project team, led by my hardworking Deputy Minister Perry Okudzeto are feverishly preparing for the event come 2023”.
Ghana won the rights to host the continent’s multi-sporting event in 2018 after beating Egypt in a biding process.
The games would also serve as qualifiers for the various disciplines for the Olympic Games in Paris 2024.
