Residents of Century road in Teshie, Greater Accra, are facing serious challenges due to an abandoned drainage system construction along Adjetey Kanton street. The project, halted by the contractor more than two months ago, has left the area prone to severe flooding, especially with the onset of regular rains.
Residents, particularly those living behind the Ford School, Century Road, have voiced their concerns, citing that the abandoned construction has led to blocked roads and muddy walkways, making the area nearly impassable. Some residents are forced to park their vehicles about 500 meters away and walk to their homes, even in the middle of the night and during rainy days, posing a security risk. Wooden pallets, haphazardly placed across the muddy streets, have further complicated the situation, leaving the roads unmotorable.
Several elderly residents living on Century Road are unable to leave their homes for essential medical reviews due to the deteriorated condition of the road.
Locals have expressed their frustrations with the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Ledzorkuku, Mr. Modekkaya, accusing him of failing to respond to repeated complaints. Despite numerous appeals, no action has been taken, leaving the community to grapple with worsening floods and deteriorating infrastructure.
The residents are urgently calling for government intervention to complete the drainage system before the rainy season exacerbates the problem, because in case of fire outbreak or a serious health attack, no fire tender or ambulance can drive on the Adjetey Kanton stretch, this is an existential threat to lives and properties at the area.
