Accra, June 13, 2024, Thursday
The Ghana Grid Company LTD. (GRIDCo) and the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) would like to notify the public that certain regions of the country have experienced power outages as a result of a decrease in gas supplies from Nigeria as of yesterday, Wednesday, June 12, 2024.
The West Africa Gas Pipeline Company (WAPCo) has stated in a statement that the reason for the gas supply restriction was maintenance work that a Nigerian gas provider was performing. The work is expected to continue for three (3) weeks.
Ghana’s total power generation capacity has decreased as a result of the maintenance, which may lead to load management during the project.
In order to minimize the impact of the reduction in gas supply on consumers, GRIDCo and ECG want to reassure the public that we are working with other stakeholders in the power value chain to optimize available resources.
We, at GRIDCo and ECG, truly regret any trouble this has caused.
