At the Kotoka International Airport in Accra, the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) and the UK National Crime Agency effectively stopped a major drug trafficking attempt.
On Monday, June 10, 2024, authorities acting on intelligence, found 166.88 kg of suspected cocaine in the luggage of two British tourists traveling together.
A NACOC statement states that the drugs that were seized had an estimated street value of $6.48 million.
When their luggage aroused red flags, the inmates, Hall Shamin Ethline and Graham Omar Adel, were set to join a British Airways flight that was headed for Gatwick.
After more examination, it was discovered that the two passengers’ six suitcases—three of each—contained a total of 72 slabs of possible cocaine.
According to a breakdown of the seizure, Hall Shamin Ethline’s suitcase included mixed personal items and about 83.44 kg of the illegal narcotic.
Similarly, along with his personal belongings, Graham Omar Adel’s suitcase also included around 83.44 kg of suspected cocaine.
After being placed under custody, both people are now cooperating with inquiries to ascertain the complete scope of the trafficking scheme.
