If elected president on December 7th, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the NPP’s flagbearer, claims he will answer to Ghanaians more than his chief rival, former President John Mahama.
He claims that this is because, following his first term in government, he will run for reelection.
During his three-day tour of the Ashanti Region, the Vice President addressed professional bodies in Kumasi. He contended that, since Mr. Mahama would not run for reelection, he would not be answerable to the people.
“I also think that since I’ll be running for an eight-year term, if you elect me president, I’ll be more accountable to you. If you grant me an eight-year term, it implies that you will first grant me a four-year term. This means I will have to put in a lot of effort to convince you to grant me a further four years.
Thus, I’ll take greater responsibility. When I return, I’ll tell you what I’ve accomplished, at which point you can renew my driver’s license and I’ll take the wheel to continue our journey.
My primary opponent, in my opinion, is only seeking a four-year term, so if you grant it to him right away, he’ll leave on his honeymoon and you won’t see him again. You will receive responsibility from me, but there won’t be any.”
The Vice President additionally declared that plans are on for the Ministry of Finance to repay customers of businesses that the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) dissolved as part of the financial cleanup operation.
Dr. Bawumia claims that the action aims to promote accountability and transparency in the financial market while providing assistance to investors who have been negatively impacted.
“The Finance Minister appears to be anticipating paying some of the customers of the liquidated companies.”
“We have it on our agenda regarding Gold Coast Securities and others, and I think the Ministry of Finance will take a look at it. We have contacted the impacted clients, and we eagerly await payment.
