Rock City Hotel will purchase 60% of the shares that the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) has in the Elmina Beach Resort, Ridge Royal Hotel, La Palm Royal Beach Resort, and Labadi Beach Hotel.
SSNIT claims that Rock City, owned by Minister of Food and Agriculture Dr. Bryan Acheampong, made the greatest offer to buy the hotels.
But stakeholders have expressed grave worries about conflicts of interest, and Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, the member of parliament for North Tongu, has petitioned CHRAJ to look into the situation.
Alexander Kwamina Afenyo-Markin, the majority leader in parliament, has begged the minister of agriculture to make the paperwork related to the acquisition of the hotels available in light of the recent developments.
According to him, since the disputed assets are owned by Ghanaians, the Trust would have to give the public a thorough explanation.
Since politicians cannot condemn or praise the issue because it is not a political affair, the Member of Parliament for Effutu advised SSNIT to refrain from being dogmatic.
“Allow me to appeal to SSNIT; SSNIT needs to come forward, provide the necessary documents, and have a conversation about it.” They can’t be dodgy, after all. This has nothing to do with politics. I’m not allowed to come and discuss politics about it, criticize it, or praise it,” he said.
He gave SSNIT the duty of informing the public about all of its unsuccessful investments.
“Not only does SSNIT need to make public this decision, but it also needs to examine all of its failing investments and provide an explanation for the public.”
“Let’s not look at the form but at the substance, and I’m sure that TUC and other labor unions will understand if these things are explained and they will take away Bryan Acheampong as a person.”
