At the Silver Jubilee Anniversary durbar of Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II on Sunday, the rich culture and traditions of the Asante people were on full show.
It was precisely twenty-five years since the respected king mounted the Golden Stool in 1999, and the event on Sunday was colorful.
On this auspicious date, which also coincided with Akwasidaekese, a sacred festival in Ashanti custom, people from all walks of life showed up in force.
Among the notable figures in attendance was Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, who was leading a group from the government and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) that comprised MPs, ministers of state, and the NPP’s national chairman.
Dr. Bawumia was not to be overlooked on a day when culture and tradition were on full show, as he was dressed in full traditional garb.
Dr. Bawumia was wearing a stunning kente cloth and matching ahenema (sandals). His wife, Samira, was also wearing a stunning kente.
All of the party and government representatives that attended Dr. Bawumia dressed colorfully for the occasion, wearing kente clothing.
The throng, attempting to get a view of the NPP flagbearer, cheered as soon as Dr. Bawumia’s bus pulled up to the scene.
Dr. Bawumia and his group were forced to disembark from the bus and navigate the dense crowd on foot.
Dr. Bawumia was among the dignitaries that attended Otumfuo Osei Tutu II’s banquet at the Manhyia Palace last night.
Asantehene and Asanteman were joined by numerous traditional rulers from all around the nation, including as the Ga Mantse, to celebrate his Silver Anniversary Jubilee.
