It has been reported that the Kaduna State Internal Revenue Service (KADIRS) in Nigeria has sealed six telecommunication masts and a textile materials outlet, Mudassir and Brothers (Mudatex), in the metropolis due to outstanding taxes. According to News Agency of Nigeria, the total amount of outstanding taxes amount to $4.2 million. The MTN servers which were located at three different roads, GLOBACOM server, and a general mast (ATC) that served various communication services were among the sealed masts. In addition to that, Mudassir and Brothers (Mudatex) textile materials outlet situated on Ahmadu Bello Way faced closure due to an outstanding $3.7 thousand for signpost advertisements. According to Mrs. Aysha Ahmad, the Secretary and Legal Adviser of the KADIRS Board, while it was regrettable to seal properties, it was important for citizens to fulfill their civic duty of tax payment. Highlighting the revenue target set by the Kaduna State Government at $85.5 million, Ahmad reiterated the importance of tax compliance, appealing to residents to fulfill their civic responsibilities. Shamsuddeen Lere, the Legal Adviser of the Kaduna State Urban Planning Development Authority (KASUPDA), confirmed that notices had been served to defaulters, but compliance was lacking. Al-Babello Trading Company Ltd, a well-known business entity at the Panteka market, also fell under the KADIRS’ scrutiny for undisclosed unpaid signpost advertisements.
