Head of State Akufo-Addo
President Nana Akufo-Addo says he understands the difficulties Ghanaians are facing in light of the country’s recent unpredictable power supply, which is referred to as “dumsor” by locals.
He expressed his gratitude to Ghanaians for their patience on Wednesday during the opening of the Kumasi 1 Thermal Plant in the Ashanti Region, despite the discomfort the situation has caused.
He assured the populace that steps are being taken to lessen the difficulties.
“I acknowledge the difficulties with power supply that the people of Ashanti and other areas of the country have faced recently, Minister of Energy, ladies and gentlemen, and Nananom. And all I can say is that I appreciate your patience with me through all of these challenges,” he uttered.
Samuel Atta Akyea, the chairman of Parliament’s Mines and Energy Committee, has cautioned against politicizing electricity-related issues.
The propaganda that people wish to follow is pointless. I reasoned that electricity and power creation are not associated with any certain party color. I will say this again. In Ghana, everyone requires electricity. It therefore defies common logic when efforts are made to strengthen our country’s power foundation and certain individuals choose to disparage them.
“What kind of governance are you hoping to inherit? A government devoid of access to electricity?
“Our idea of governance is unknown to me. According to our view of governance, Ghana ought to be the main winner. Okay, if it’s NPP. That is what it ought to be if it is NDC. However, when it leaves a lot to be desired that it is not coming from your administration and you wish to undermine it, he emphasized.
