New accusations have been brought by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) against Adjenim Boateng Adjei, the former CEO of the Public Procurement Authority (PPA).
The charges were filed by the OSP on April 17, 2024.
Adjenim Boateng Adjei is charged with eight counts pertaining to the abuse of public office for private benefit and the tampering of the procurement procedure to obtain an unjust advantage in contract acquisition.
Furthermore, an allegation of using public office for personal advantage against his co-defendant, his brother-in-law Francis Kwaku, has been withdrawn.
The President of the Republic, H.E. Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, submitted the matter to this OSP based on an audio-visual documentary titled Contracts for Sale, which was produced by the Multimedia Group and featured investigative journalism by Manasseh Azure Awuni.
On May 25, 2022, Mr. Adjei and his brother-in-law, Francis Kwaku Arhin, the CEO of Talent Discovery Limited, were first charged. Mr. Adjei is said to have owned the majority of the company’s shares, while Mr. Arhin had a minority interest. The allegations center on using Talent Discovery Limited as a front to protect public contracts.
Mr. Boateng Adjei and Mr. Francis Kwaku Arhin, his brother-in-law, are on trial for offenses relating to corruption.
With two sureties, they were given GH¢5 million bail, which was deemed appropriate.
