Santos – who guided Portugal to victory in the 2016 European Championships and last year’s inaugural Nations League – had originally signed a deal until after Euro 2020, which has been postponed until next year because of the coronavirus pandemic.
The 65-year-old took over as Portugal national boss after the 2014 World Cup, having previously had spells in charge of Porto, Sporting Lisbon and Benfica in his native country, as well as the Greece national team.

ARTETA: I WANT LUIZ TO EXTEND DEAL
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta says he would love to see David Luiz extend his stay at the club.
Luiz moved to the Emirates on a one-year deal – rather than the initially reported two-year contract – his agent Kia Joorabchian told Sky Sports News last week.
He also revealed that Arsenal had the option to extend the contract into a second season, but did not trigger the clause which has since expired.
Arteta wants to keep the Brazilian at the Emirates with the player’s agent saying he has a “high chance” of agreeing an extension.
“I am really happy with David, I want to keep him here with us. He’s been a key role model since I joined,” said Arteta.

DUDA EXTENDS NORWICH STAY
Norwich have extended Ondrej Duda‘s loan deal until the end of the 2019/20 season.
The midfielder joined the Canaries from Hertha Berlin in January but was due to leave before the rescheduled Premier League campaign ended.
That has now been rectified, meaning the Slovakia international will stay to help Norwich fight relegation.
Head coach Daniel Farke said on Norwich’s official website: “We are grateful to Hertha for allowing Ondrej to stay with us.
“We know we’ve got an extremely important period of games coming up and we very much hope Ondrej can contribute to what we’re trying to achieve at this time.”

LEICESTER TO RENEW TARKOWSKI INTEREST
Leicester and Crystal Palace will battle it out to sign Burnley defender James Tarkowski this summer, according to the Daily Mirror.
Brendan Rodgers is a keen admirer of the 27-year-old, who was a target for the Foxes last summer after they sold Harry Maguire to Manchester United.
Burnley value the centre-back at £50m, and Leicester could renew their interest with the possibility of Champions League football next season.
Bournemouth’s Nathan Ake and Southampton’s Jannik Vestergaard are also being considered with Rodgers seeking to add an experienced centre-half who is proven in the Premier League.

SANCHO TO LEAVE DORTMUND?
Jadon Sancho‘s future at Borussia Dortmund remains uncertain after head coach Lucien Favre admitted the forward was among players that could leave this summer.
“Obviously players will go and we hope that they stay but it’s possible that they may also leave,” said Favre, when asked about the futures of Sancho and on-loan Real Madrid full-back Achraf Hakimi.
“You have spoken about two players who we don’t know definitively what will happen – they could stay with us, that’s clear and that would be good for me. We’ll see what we’ll do in defence, midfield or attack.”

But Jonathan Barnett told the Daily Mail: “All the rumours are rubbish.”

CRESPO KEEN TO MAKE ENGLAND RETURN
Former Chelsea striker Hernan Crespo would relish a management job in the Premier League or Championship after learning the tricks of the trade from Tottenham head coach Jose Mourinho.
Crespo is currently manager of Defensa y Justicia in his native Argentina after ending a glittering playing career in 2012 that saw him score 273 times in 608 appearances for several top European sides.
Twenty-five of those goals came for Chelsea during a five-year stint between 2003 and 2008 in which he was not always the first-choice forward, especially when Mourinho was at Stamford Bridge.
It was a similar story when the pair were reunited a few years later at Inter Milan yet Crespo holds no grudges as he paid tribute to the Portuguese for demonstrating what it takes to become a first-rate manager.
“Jose showed me the way that it’s not only picking the first XI to be a manager,” Crespo said.
“It’s understanding everything, 360 degrees, in terms of communication with journalists, understand the governance, the group of players, the group of coaches. You are in the middle of all these groups.
“Maybe it was about my age that I opened my eyes and understood better but Jose Mourinho showed me the way to be a top manager.”

EVERTON ‘OFFER SILVA CONTRACT’
Paris Saint-Germain and Brazil legend Thiago Silva has received a contract offer from Everton as he prepares to depart the French capital, report the Daily Express.
The 35-year-old worked under Carlo Ancelotti during his time in Paris, and the Everton boss is actively seeking to strengthen his options in the centre of defence.
Ancelotti in fact brought Silva to the Parc des Princes back in 2012, but Everton could face competition from West Ham, Tottenham and Arsenal.
21:49
VAN GINKEL IN CONTRACT TALKS
Marco van Ginkel has confirmed he is in talks over a new deal at Chelsea – despite not having played for the club since 2013 and making just four first team appearances.
“My agent, Karel Jansen, is in talks with Chelsea about a new contract for me,” van Ginkel told Dutch outlet AD. “I am very happy at this show of confidence in me by the club.”
Midfielder Van Ginkel has spent time on loan with AC Milan, Stoke and PSV Eindhoven, but has seen a series of injuries curtail his playing time.21:02
UTD CONSIDER BAILEY SWOOP
Manchester United are giving serious consideration to a summer swoop for Bayer Leverkusen winger Leon Bailey, the Daily Mail reports.
Jadon Sancho and Jack Grealish are among the names being linked with a move Old Trafford with the Bundesliga side valuing Bailey at £40m.20:18
‘AUBA EXIT WOULD BE TRAVESTY’
Arsenal must “show some mettle” to keep Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang at the club as allowing him to leave would be a “travesty”, says former striker Kevin Campbell.
VARNEY WORRIES FOR OUT-OF-CONTRACT PLAYERS
Cheltenham Town’s Luke Varney talks to Sky Sports News reporter Rob Jones about the uncertainty facing out-of-contract lower league players and the prospect of playing in an empty Wembley Stadium.
“There’s definitely an influx of worry, I must admit, especially the lads out of contract, of course,” Varney said.
“I think this is the reason the league want it done before the end of June because if you go past that time you are susceptible to injury and having to look after it yourself.
“There’s definitely that bit of doubt in the lads’ heads but once you start playing there’s that natural instinct to compete and there’s a big prize for the team that are the eventual winners, so we’re back at it and that worry probably only comes once you come off the training pitch and you start thinking about your situation.
“Covid has thrown everything into complete turmoil, lads who were promised contracts before this all set off are now being told that they might have to wait. Budgets are being cut in all leagues, across all teams and that’s understandable.”
19:13
EVERTON EYE SILVA MOVE
Everton have made an audacious attempt to sign Paris Saint-Germain icon Thiago Silva on a free transfer once the Brazilian’s contract ends this summer, the Daily Express reports.
Th Premier League side are in need of reinforcements in central defence and Carlo Ancleotti the manager at PSG when Silva arrived in 2012.

WERNER WILL NOT PLAY IN CL
Germany international Werner is expected to leave the Bundesliga club and join Chelsea this summer.
Sky in Germany expect Werner to officially become a Chelsea player in the middle of July before taking 3-4 weeks off ahead of the 2020-21 season.
Leipzig qualified for the Champions League quarter-finals back on March 10, just before football across Europe was shut down, with a 4-0 aggregate win over Spurs.
The Champions League quarter-final dates are expected to be confirmed for August 12-15 at a UEFA Executive Committee meeting on Wednesday – all games are set to be played at two stadiums in Lisbon.
18:35
CHELSEA MAKE PJANIC OFFER
Chelsea have made an offer for Juventus midfielder Miralem Pjanic as the midfielder weighs up his options ahead of a likely summer move, Corriere dello Sport reports.
Pjanic is expected to leave the Serie A club this summer, with Barcelona haveily linked. PSG have also reportedly made an offer for the midfielder. 18:05
BERTRAND WANTS DIRECTOR OF FOOTBALL ROLE
If a lack of black managers in the game has again been a hot topic in recent days, for Bertrand to become director of football would be a move into almost uncharted territory.
“It’s an ambition of mine and the race thing hasn’t played on my mind, I haven’t thought of it like that,” he says.
“But if there have been black people that have tried to get into a hierarchy of sports and felt resistance, I think it is important that it is spoken of and that’s how you can create the gateway to producing more black executives within the game.
“We need to concentrate on making sure the openings are there. No one wants anything for free but at the same time we need to make sure the playing field is level and there isn’t a subconscious bias or an element of racism that’s preferring people when other people are more than capable of doing the job.
“It mixes a bit of business with my sport and they’re both my passions. Having the responsibility to say ‘yes, I chose these players, I chose them to perform well’ and working with a manager and business owner to get the right consistency and the footballing model that’s successful on the field, I would take a lot of pride in that.”
17:29
SPURS IN MEUNIER TALKS
Tottenham are in talks to sign Paris Saint-Germain free agent Thomas Meunier at the end of this season, according to the Daily Express.
The newspaper claims Mourinho has already spoken to Meunier, who is represented by super agent Pini Zahavi, in an effort to persuade him that Tottenham should be his destination this summer.
Mourinho sees the Belgium international as the man to strengthen his defence with Serge Aurier having an inconsistent season at right-back. 16:54
£90M FOR KOULIBALY?
Napoli will not let Kalidou Koulibaly go cheaply as Manchester City, Manchester United and PSG are all told they will have to pay £90m.
“If City or United or PSG with €100m (£90m) showed up, I would think about it and it is probable that they would leave, always if their will was to leave,” Napoli owner Aurelio De Laurentiis told Corriere dello Sport. “I don’t even consider an offer of €60m (£55m).”16:25
HENDERSON FUTURE DISCUSSED
Henderson has spent the past two seasons on loan as No 1 at Sheffield United, but Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says the 23-year-old has “proved” he will go on to become first-choice goalkeeper for Manchester United.
Asked whether he had been in touch with Manchester United over keeping Henderson until the end of the current campaign, Wilder said: “There has been, there always is. Not every conversation is put out to the media.
“I spoke to Ole yesterday [Sunday] morning and I thanked him for his cooperation with Dean. We’re in the process, in the next couple of days, of finalising Dean staying with us until the end of the season.
“I’ve got to say, the manager [Solskjaer] was brilliant and has been always with me and our football club. He was very pro Dean staying and delighted in terms of what Dean has produced for us and what we’ve done for Dean.
“We’ve had initial conversations. We would be open to Dean coming back but I’ve got huge respect for Manchester United and he’s their player and they’ll make that decision, in conjunction with Dean.
“From our point of view, obviously if there is an opportunity, we’d love to take that up.”

SANCHO TO LEAVE DORTMUND?
Jadon Sancho’s future at Borussia Dortmund remains uncertain after head coach Lucien Favre admitted the forward was among players that could leave this summer.
“Obviously players will go and we hope that they stay but it’s possible that they may also leave,” said Favre, when asked about the futures of Sancho and on-loan Real Madrid full-back Achraf Hakimi.

ARTETA ‘POSITIVE’ NEW AUBA DEAL CAN BE DONE
Aubameyang’s deal expires next summer and he was quoted this week saying he felt at “a turning point” in his career.
“We have many discussions with Pierre, with his family and his agent. I’m pretty positive we can find the right agreement for all parties,” Arteta said. “It is our responsibility to make him feel this is the right next step in his career.
“In order to do that he needs to feel valued. He needs to feel like he belongs to us and we want him. He really needs to believe we can take this club forward in the way we want to do and he’s going to be a key player to do that.
“I’m extremely happy with how he’s performing and behaving. I have a really good relationship with him and we can discuss face to face a lot of things and I think he’s very happy at the club. We would have liked to do things much quicker but our hands have been tied with time and communication. These unprecedented times bring a lot of uncertainty.”

KILMARNOCK SIGN HAMILTON RIGHT-BACK MCGOWAN
Kilmarnock have secured the signing of Hamilton right-back Aaron McGowan.
The defender has agreed a two-year contract after rejecting a new deal from Accies. The 23-year-old will officially join Killie on July 1 after his Hamilton contract expires and his arrival comes on the day manager Alex Dyer signed a two-year deal himself.
The former Morecambe player told Kilmarnock’s website: “At this time in my career I felt like Kilmarnock was the right move for me. I spoke with (head of football operations) James Fowler and the gaffer about what they think I can bring to the club and they really made me feel wanted, which really helped sell me on the move.
“I’m really excited to get going and I believe this can be a successful move for both parties. I feel welcome by the lads and staff already and now it’s time to get my head down and start preparing for our first game of the season.”03:31
‘LIVERPOOL SHOULD HAVE TAKEN RISK WITH WERNER’
Phil Thompson believes Liverpool should have taken a ‘risk’ by signing Germany international Timo Werner.
MOTHERWELL SNAP UP MCGINLEY
Motherwell have signed former Forest Green defender Nathan McGinley.
The 23-year-old has signed on for two seasons and follows Ricki Lamie and Jordan White in moving to Fir Park this summer.
McGinley made one appearance for boyhood club Middlesbrough before joining Forest Green, where he played almost 100 times in two seasons.
“Nathan is a boy I’ve wanted for a long time,” manager Stephen Robinson told Motherwell’s official website. “I feel he gives us real pace and athleticism in the back line. He is also very versatile and can play at left-back and centre-back. He is very composed on the ball and has real pace. He’s someone I feel that, if he can continue to improve, he can play at a high level.”
McGinley added: “I can’t wait to get started. I’ve been up the last few days and got myself settled ahead of training with the boys for the first time, and I’m ready to get going. It’s a chance for me to come and develop my game further, and work with a coach in Stephen Robinson who has a track record of making players better. Obviously it’s my first experience of playing in Scotland. But I’ve heard so many good things about Motherwell and I’m excited to be a part of it.”02:48
BRONZE WANTS PROVEN WINNER TO LEAD ENGLAND WOMEN
Lucy Bronze wants a proven winner to replace Phil Neville as England Women‘s coach and insists gender and experience should be a secondary factor in the search for his successor.
Neville is set to step down next year with the Football Association looking to appoint a successor to lead the Lionesses into the delayed European Championships in England in 2022.
Double World Cup winner Jill Ellis, Chelsea coach Emma Hayes, Manchester United’s Casey Stoney, and former Manchester City boss Nick Cushing have all be named as potential replacements to Neville.
And Bronze, the reigning European Women’s Footballer of the Year, believes the search should not be limited either to a woman, or a manager with a record in the women’s game.
Bronze said: “I think now most managers would chop their hand off to be a part of our team. Do I think it needs to be a woman? No. Do I think it has to be someone in women’s football? I don’t really think that. In women’s football especially, I don’t think that we see that as a difference, whether it’s a male of a female manager.
“If they know what they’re doing on the pitch and they can make us a better team, then bring them in and let’s go and win something.”02:20
‘POGBA IS ONE OF THE BEST IN THE WORLD’
Former Manchester United keeper Mark Bosnich believes Paul Pogba should stay at the club, adding that he is one of the best players in the world when he’s fully fit.
ARTETA: WE NEED TO CONVINCE AUBA TO STAY
Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta says the club need to make Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang feel valued if they are to convince him to stay…
MORE FROM ARTETA ON AUBAMEYANG…
Aubameyang’s output since joining the Gunners in 2018 has been of the highest standard, with 61 goals in 97 appearances, leading to reported interest from a host of top clubs.
Despite that, and the opaque comments recently attributed to the player in the foreign press, Arteta has seen no suggestion that his head has been turned.
“I think at the moment I am extremely happy with how he’s been performing and behaving,” he said. “I have a really good relationship with him and we can discuss face to face a lot of things. So far as I’m aware I think he’s very happy at the club.”
Arteta suggested the coronavirus shutdown had played at least some part in the slow progress of negotiations, adding: “In a different context we’d have liked to do things much quicker but obviously it is unprecedented times. That brings a lot of uncertainty. But things are getting clearer and clearer every day that we are a step closer to getting back playing football and we want to move forward.”00:48
ARTETA POSITIVE ON CHANCES OF KEEPING AUBAMEYANG
Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta is “pretty positive” of signing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to a new deal but admits the club must persuade the striker of his importance and their own ambition.
Aubameyang’s deal expires next summer and he was quoted this week saying he felt at “a turning point” in his career.
The Gabon international has no shortage of admirers should he decide his future lies elsewhere but Arteta thinks a deal can be reached.
“We have many discussions with Pierre, with his family and his agent. I’m pretty positive we can find the right agreement for all parties,” said Arteta. “I think it is our responsibility to make him feel this is the right next step in his career. In order to do that he needs to feel valued, he needs to feel he belongs to us and that we want him.
“He really needs to believe we can take this club forward in the way we want to and he’s going to be a key part.”00:40
REDKNAPP: TEAMS WILL FEAR FULLY FIT MAN UTD
With Marcus Rashford and Paul Pogba fully fit, Manchester United will be a powerful force when the Premier League resumes, says Jamie Redknapp.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side had gone 11 games unbeaten when football was suspended in March due to coronavirus and during the following three months key players Rashford and Pogba have been able to get back to full fitness after injury lay-offs.
The pair will be ready and available for United’s big Friday Night Football clash with Tottenham – which you can watch live on Sky Sports – and Redknapp says they will be a huge boost to the team as they push for the Champions League qualifying places.

‘HENDERSON WILL BE UTD, ENGLAND NO 1’
Manchester United are expected to grant academy product Henderson permission to see out the elongated 2019/20 Premier League campaign at Sheffield United ahead of its resumption on June 17, with discussions ongoing over where his future lies next season.
“Dean has made some great choices over the years and has developed fantastically,” said Solskjaer. “We’re looking at that in terms of where he’s going to be next season, but as yet that has not been decided.
“This season has proved a great experience for him, he’s done himself some favours with his performances, and proved he will be England’s No 1 and Man United’s No 1 at some point.”23:32

REID IN FOR BOLTON JOB
Former WBA, Millwall and Blackburn player Steven Reid among the favourites to take over as new manager of Bolton Wanderers.
Reid is currently a coach of the Scotland national team, working with Steve Clarke, but has never before been a number one.
He was in the running for the Southend job before Sol Campbell was appointed in October.
Reid completed his pro licence in 2018 and is eager for a chance as a manger, having been on the coaching staff at Crystal Palace, WBA and Reading.
It was announced two days ago that Keith Hill will leave Bolton at the end of the month when his contract expires, after the club was relegated to League Two.
Bolton have been relegated twice in two seasons.21:41
‘SANE WILL BE KEY DURING RUN IN’
Leroy Sane has been linked heavily with a move to Bayern Munich but having recovered from a serious knee injury, all eyes will be on whether the German has lost any of his qualities.
Former Premier League midfielder Michael Brown believes that Sane will be key for Manchester City during their last ten games, having missed the season so far through injury.
BOWYER AMONG BIRMINGHAM CANDIDATES
Charlton manager Lee Bowyer is a candidate to return to Birmingham City as the club’s head coach.
Bowyer was a fan favourite at St Andrew’s when he played there between 2009 and 2011, helping them in their memorable League Cup final victory over Arsenal.
The 43-year-old would be interested in talking to his former club, if the opportunity arises, because of instability at The Valley.
Charlton were bought out by Paul Elliott last week – their third owner this year – and sit two points from safety in the relegation places in the Championship.
Ex-Burton Albion manager Nigel Clough is also on Birmingham’s shortlist to replace Pep Clotet, who will leave his head coach role at the end of the current season.
