The Agricultural Development Bank (ADB) has donated Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and other essential items to four health institutions in the Central Region as support in the fight against the novel coronavirus pandemic.
The beneficiary institution are the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital, Ajumako District Hospital and two other poly clinics in the Ajumako/ Enyan/ Essiam District.
Making the donation the ADB Managing Director, Dr. John Kofi Mensah called on Ghanaians to support government in the fight against the pandemic.
According to Dr. Kofi Mensah, the coronavirus pandemic has gravely affected both economic and social activities in the country hence the need for all Ghanaians to strictly abide by all the health protocols.
“The major support we can give to government in times like this is to observe all the health protocols outlined by the Ministry of health and Ghana health Service especially the wearing of face mask, observing social distancing and washing of hands frequently with soap under running water and the use of alcohol based hand sanitizers” he said.
Dr. Kofi Mensah said though government is putting in all necessary effort to flatten the curve of the pandemic, the bigger responsibility is on the citizenry to ensure that safety precautions are observed at all times.
According to the ADB Managing Director the donation was part of the Bank’s commitment in ensuring that hospitals and clinics are well equipped to deal the coronavirus cases.
Dr. Kofi Mensah reiterated the bank’s commitment in assisting government and the health institutions to find a quick solution to the pandemic so Ghanaians can return to their normal lives.
He further revealed “With approval from our Board, an amount of One Million Ghana Cedis (GHc1 million) was devoted as our support in fighting the pandemic,” he said.
The Deputy Cape Coast Regional Minister, Mr. Thomas Agyei Baffour, thanked the Bank for the gesture and indicated that the items had come at a time when the region had recorded some few cases.
Hon. Agyei Baffour said the items will further boost the morale of the Doctors and Nurses to give out their best in helping people affected by the virus.
